The Makeup Budgets Series- #3

Soooo, onto my third entry in my series! I hope you’re enjoying these, because I’m really quite enjoying making them! 😀

I have to admit, this was pretty tricky for me to do; namely because I couldn’t for the life of me pick which lipstick to use for either part! I have far too many MAC and Illamasqua lipsticks (so I won’t mention that I’ve just ordered another, whoops…)! I also have to make a confession, being that whilst doing this I discovered that I do not have a ‘high end’ powder, brow product (after getting rid of Browzings) or lip pencil, so I had to make do with some lower-priced ones. I was considering buying Benefit Gimme Brow today, actually, but I then thought to myself: I am happy with the Browdrama/Superliner Brow Artiste combo, so why should I buy something much more expensive? Something to think about, anyway!

Day

Okay, so it’s a bright lip in this day look, but hear me out! I’m just as likely to go out during the day with a beautiful, garish lip as I am with a neutral one, so even though I hovered over MAC Myth when choosing the products for this face, I’m glad I went with Illamasqua’s Sangers- possibly my favourite red lipstick!

I should clarify something here. When I say high-end, I don’t mean designer, like Guerlain or Chanel. My ‘high-end’ products are all from Benefit, MAC, Illamasqua or Urban Decay. I’m coveting a few slightly more expensive products (*cough* Lancome Hypnose Star *cough*) but in general, I’m very happy with what I’ve got! For my high-end daytime look, I used:

  • Benefit Hello Flawless Oxgyen Wow foundation in ‘Believe In Me Ivory’
  • Benefit Fake Up in Light
  • MaxFactor Creme Puff in Truly Fair- NOT high-end product #1, but it is my most expensive powder so I decided it counts!
  • Urban Decay Oz The Great and Powerful Theodora Palette- I think I used the shades Broken and Beware
  • Benefit Hervana Box O’Powder
  • Benefit Bad Gal Lash mascara
  • Urban Decay 24/7 eyeliner pencil in Perversion
  • MAC eyeshadow in Sable
  • Illamasqua lipstick in Sangers

I also used a Barry M lip pencil and my Maybelline Browdrama Sculpting Mascara in Medium Brown. Using a full face of ‘high end’ products made me realise how much I mix and match the products in my collection on a normal, daily basis. I really do like the Benefit foundation but it’s a very sheer, medium at best coverage and gives a very dewy finish so I definitely feel that I need a good powder over the top.

I was also a little disappointed with the eyeshadows but that is most definitely my blending skills! Here you can see me after I have just applied everything- even my liner, which was a bit of a disaster, looks okay! I did a nice, neutral eye look with definition in the crease but by the time I got into town it had all merged into a flat brown colour. It was a nice flat brown colour but definitely not what I was going for!

Night

This was lots of fun! I was tempted to go super crazy but I reigned myself in a little, remembering what my next installment is going to be 😉 I’m remembering why I bought this lipstick, it’s beautiful, and will look amazing over the top of the lip pencil I ordered (Nightmoth, anyone?).

Here’s what I used for my high-end nighttime look, excluding the base products as they were exactly the same as before:

  • Benefit Bad Gal lash mascara
  • Urban Decay 24/7 eyeliner in Perversion
  • Benefit High Beam liquid highlight
  • Illamasqua Powder Blush in Allure
  • Urban Decay Oz The Great and Powerful Theodora Palette- Beware and Spell duo- I used the glittery black in the outer corner and then the gold lightly dusted all over the lid after I’d blended the rest of the colours
  • MAC Club eyeshadow- in the crease
  • MAC lipstick in Cyber

The poor lighting in this photo does not do it all justice, the colours are so lovely! Even if I do say so myself, I did a very good job on the eyes. Dusting the gold over the lid was a really good idea that I will have to remember, as every now and again it would catch the light. I also really like Allure, it’s a ‘Dusky Rose Pink shimmer’ according to Illamasqua and whilst it would be very easy to be heavy handed, it’s a lovely colour and brings lots of warmth to the face.
