My makeup storage has changed recently. I’ve still got my Ikea Skubb boxes in my top drawer holding most of my makeup, but I also now have an acrylic holder and display setup for my lipsticks and nail polishes respectively. I still keep my bases, primers and lipbalms in the pink basket on my dressing table, but I’ve now taken to keeping a makeup bag with my general day-to-day makeup in there, as well, ready to pick up and take with me if needs be. It’s pretty much full of products to do an everyday, natural make up look, ready for work. I can then mix and match other products as and when needed. The make up bag I’m using is my cat-face bag from Primark last season- it’s a decent size and the lining is a bit padded which keeps all the products inside safe when my kit is shoved into a bag.
These are my current go-to products! The MUA Undress Your Skin Flawless Primer is definitely a favourite of mine. I know some people don’t like to use silicone based products, but I feel like I need the finish this gives. Without it, my makeup looks really, really cakey and this keeps it smooth, matte and velvety. I’m still on the market for my base-to-end-all-bases- I thought I’d found it with Bourjois 1,2,3 Perfect, but I’m no longer so enamored with the colour match, and I thought I’d found it with Benefit’s Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow, but I think that’s such a light coverage and gives such a dewy finish it’s only for really good skin days- and I’m hesitant to say it, but I’m so far really impressed with Maybelline’s SuperStay Better Skin foundation. I have the shade Light Beige, which is a really good match for my tricksy skintone, and the coverage is great- medium to full, buildable and it definitely covers all my blemishes and redness well. I then buff in Maybelline’s Matte Maker powder because when I don’t have powder, it’s only a matter of minutes (it seems) until my nose is shinier than Rudolph’s and all my make up is melting off. This is the shade Classic Ivory and again I can’t fault the colour match, and it seems to do what it claims so- so far, so good.
I do own and use the much-lauded Collection Lasting Perfection concealer, but recently I’ve been lusting after something different for under my eyes because sometimes the Lasting Perfection concealer can feel a bit thick, and settle into my lines (oh God I have lines now?) a bit. Benefit’s Fake Up in Light has been really nice, so that’s in the bag currently. I’m also loving Maybelline’s Brow Drama sculpting mascara in the shade Medium Brown for my eyebrows, which I get regularly threaded or waxed. This offers me exactly what I need- I have pretty thick eyebrows, so I don’t need much in the way of filling, just taming. I’ve spoken before of the miraculous discovery that is P.S. Love eyeliner felt tip from Primark, and I can’t speak too highly about it. It’s wonderful, really the best eyeliner pen I have ever used and I have used a HUGE amount of eyeliners! I team this with Urban Decay 24/7 pencil in Zero on my bottom waterline. I have pretty watery eyes and this pencil stays more or less all day with the minimum amount of smudging or movement from my waterline. Mascara-wise, I like either (or sometimes both) Collection’s No Clump mascara in Black, and Company Lashes. Company Lashes was a freebie with Company last month and I’m so annoyed that when this is used I won’t be able to replace it, because it’s a truly wonderful mascara.
Here I have an MUA matte eyeshadow (can’t remember the shade) and MAC eyeshadows in Cranberry and Club. They’re not necessarily in my ‘everyday’ makeup bag, they were the shades that I wore yesterday so were in the bag when I photographed it! However, I am so in love with the Shading and Blending brushes from the Models Own 5-mini brush set, and the ELF Studio Complexion Brush for on-the-go powder top ups.
Do you use any of these products? What’s in your makeup bag?
