I like alliteration.
Check out the bags!
As you can probably gather from the photo, I didn’t make it to the pub. Sad times 😦 Instead, I am make up free, snuggled in my bed with a film on and a grumbly tummy all full of soup. I think everyone knows how horrible it is when you have a cold and a cough and you generally feel heavy and miserable. So, I thought I’d share with you one of my secret recipes, as this works for colds, sore throats, all that stuff.
It’s my Flu Fighter!
It’s really, really easy, and any idiot can do it!
You will need:
1x teabag or loose leaves of your choice- I find Earl Grey is really good because of the citrus-y flavour
1/2 a lemon
1-2tsp of honey, depending how sweet you like things
It’s really, really simple: you make your tea with hot (never boiling!) water, and whilst leaving it to steep, squeeze the juice of half a lemon into the tea and drop the fruit into it. Let it infuse along with the tea bag (or, if you like loose-leaf tea, drop it into the pot. When you strain the tea, it will catch all the pips and nasty bits with the leaves!) and then remove the lemon. Stir in the honey, making sure you keep stirring until it is all dissolved. Then sit back and enjoy. For added sore-throat busting powers, and if you like that sort of thing, you can add 1 tsp of ground ginger! It’s also nice without the tea- just put half a lemon into the mug of your choice, cover it in hot water, add the honey and ginger and hey presto! Similarly, you can mix it up- use half a lemon and half a lime, or even just half a lime!
I swear by this stuff when I’m feeling poorly like this. The honey has really good antiseptic qualities, the lemon is obviously a fantastic hit of vitamin C, and the ginger works wonders for sore throats and chesty coughs. If you give it a go, let me know!
